BUS TURÍSTIC (TMB)

The fleet of buses comprises different types of vehicles with different systems to make them accessible to people with reduced mobility. Only one of the models presents major accessibility problems. This is the case with the open-topped, single-decker bus, which has no ramp to bridge the steps at the bus entrance.

The systems on the usual types of bus that allow access for people with reduced mobility are listed below:

  • They have retractable access ramps fitted with safety systems (acoustic signals and illuminated signs to let passengers know that the ramps are being lowered or raised, automatic shut-down system should the ramp come into contact with any objects or people, anchorage system in case the ramp starts moving with a person or object on it, etc.). In addition to the retractable ramp, the buses tilt down towards the kerb, so that wheelchair users and other people with reduced mobility can board more easily. However, depending on the height of the kerb, some wheelchair users may need assistance to get on and off the bus easily.
  • Spaces reserved for wheelchair users fitted with anchorage systems.
  • Spaces reserved for other people with reduced mobility, fitted with armrests and grab handles.
  • Reserved seats with enough space for a guide dog.

The buses have the following communication systems:

  • Specific devices located in the reserved seating areas and placed at the correct height so that wheelchair users and people with reduced mobility can board more easily.
  • Devices outside the bus so that passengers can request access to the ramp.
  • Some types of bus don't have any Braille or tactile buttons.
  • The Bus Turístic doesn't have specific bus stop signage systems for the blind and visually impaired.

As far as access to the areas that are not reserved for people with reduced mobility are concerned, there are basically two aspects that may prove problematic: the first is the low height of the ceiling on the lower deck (less than 1.85m from floor to ceiling). The second aspect concerns the stairs to the upper deck, which don't have any systems in place to prevent people from using them.
